Six MHPS 501J Gas Turbines Achieve 123 MW Boost in Japan

A power company in Japan needed an efficient way to boost output at their facility. Mee Industries installed evaporative cooling systems to augment power production on six of their MHPS 501J turbines. The skids have nine pumps and provide fifteen stages of fogging. Each MeeFog™ system produces a 20.5 MW power boost, resulting in 123 MW total power boost for all units.

Project Conditions:

Location: Himeji, Japan
Hot day conditions: 36.7° C and 39% RH
Elevation: Sea level
Max power boost per GT: 20.5 MW
Mee’s scope of work: Supply of fog pump skids, nozzle manifolds, and supervision of installation and commissioning

Fog System Design:

Cooling stages: 15
Operating pressure: 2,000 psi
Fog droplet size: 12 microns
Nozzle flow rate: 0.17 lpm per nozzle
MeeFog™ nozzle count: 975
Max. power requirement: 80 HP
