Aileen S. Andrew Memorial Library

Located in the growing city of Orland Park, IL, the Aileen S. Andrew Memorial Library serves as the primary resource facility for reading, audiovisual materials, and state-of-the-art technology. With typical winter conditions and high humidifying loads in Northwestern Illinois, the library needed an energy-efficient humidification system to maintain optimal indoor air quality.

Mee Fog Humidifier Installation

The environment of the newest addition to the library system is controlled by two air handlers with a total of 60,000 CFM and a humidifier capacity of 1500#/hr. The load is matched by using staging solenoids that bring on nozzle headers in various combinations. Excess moisture that is not absorbed into the air stream is collected on droplet filters and drained away. The total electrical load for this system is 1.25 kW.The system is controlled by the building control system. A complete Reverse Osmosis system toremove unwanted minerals from the water was also installed as part of the system.

Challenge:

The library staff realized the need for an energy-efficient humidification system to maintain optimal indoor air quality and comfort during the winter months. The existing system did not meet the efficiency and maintenance requirements of the library. Because of the harsh winter conditions and the need for high levels of humidification, the library required an energy-efficient solution. Traditional gas-fired steam generating humidifiers were too costly and inefficient, so the library staff sought a better alternative.

Solution:

A MeeFog high-pressure humidification system that controls the environment of the library’s newest addition using two air handlers with a total airflow of 60,000 CFM and a humidifier capacity of 1500 pounds per hour. The staging solenoids manage the load by activating nozzle headers in various combinations, and excess moisture is collected on droplet filters and drained away. The total electrical load for the system is only 1.25 kW.
