Wet Compression Boosts Power Output by 24 MW

Three MeeFog wet compression systems were installed in 2023 on three 7EA gas turbines. Wet compression consists of spraying water into the gas turbine compressor. The water evaporates inside the compressor giving an inter-cooling effect that reduces the work of compression, which causes an increase in power output. Each wet compression system provides an 8 MW power boost resulting in a 24 MW power boost for the plant.

Project Conditions:

  •  Model: GE 7EA Gas Turbines
  • Elevation: 1800 feet
  • Mee’s scope of work: design, build, supervise installation
  • Max power boost per GT: 8 MW
  • Wet compression downstream of existing evaporative coolers

Fog System Design:

  • Fogging Stages: 9
  • Operating Pressure: 2,000 psi
  • Fog Droplet Size: 12 micron (SMD)
  • MeeFog™ Nozzle Count: 1,368
  • Nozzle Flow Rate: 0.08 gpm per nozzle
  • Max. Water Flow: 109.4 gpm
  • Max. Power Requirement: 180 HP
