MeeFog Skid Upgrade Boosts Power Output by 30 MW

This power plant is located in the state of Chihuahua in Northwest Mexico, at an altitude of 1,260 meters. The first MeeFog installation was in 2006. In 2021 the plant wanted to upgrade the fog skids, so new MeeFog wet compression and inlet cooling systems were fitted onto the GE 7FA gas turbine. This raised the output the turbine from 110 MW to 140 MW for a total power boost of 30 MW. The fog systems cost much less than chillers or other power augmentation systems and far less than adding new turbomachinery.

Project Conditions:

Location: Chihuahua, Mexico
Model: GE 7FA
Elevation: 1,260 meters ASL
Mee’s scope of work: Removal of existing nozzle lines and skid, supply of new MeeFog pump skid, nozzle manifolds, supervision of installation and commissioning.

Fog System Design:

MeeFog™ nozzle count: 1,784
Operating pressure: 2,000 psi (138 bar)
Evaporative cooling nozzle flow rate: 0.045 GPM (0.173 LPM)
Wet compression nozzle flow rate: 0.08
GPM (0.303 LPM)
Total skid flow: 107 GPM (406 LPM)
Max power requirement: 134 kW
Cooling capacity: 36 °F (19.8° C) + 1% of GT air mass flow as wet compression
