Inlet Air Fogging Upgrade for 2 x GE 7FB.04 Turbines in Wisconsin
Gas Turbine Inlet Air CoolingUpgrading Fog Systems for Enhanced Efficiency and Reliability
Two existing OEM-supplied fog systems were facing significant operational challenges. With five pumps requiring frequent maintenance and a winterization procedure that took days to complete, the system was both time-consuming and costly to operate.
To address these challenges, a MeeFog system was installed to replace the original fog systems. The new system utilizes a single, water-lubricated pump housed in a heated pump shelter. Staging valves provide 16 cooling stages, and a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) slows the pump as the staging valves close, to maintain a consistent 2,000 psi discharge pressure. Winterization is automatic, with drain valves that open automatically when ambient temperatures fall below a pre-set point. The fog controls were seamlessly integrated into the existing Ovation Distributed Control System for system monitoring and control.
Upgrading to the MeeFog system resulted in improved operational reliability, reduced maintenance costs, and better overall system efficiency, aligning with the facility’s goals of maximizing performance and minimizing operational disruptions.
